We all have a favorite recliner or spot on the couch to relax in! Well what do you do if your favorite spot is starting to get a little dirty? Thankfully Le-Squeegee has a few tips to help keep the upholstery clean!

Vacuum first! – Regular vacuuming can help upholstered items stay clean. It is best practice to vacuum off pet hair before it has a chance to burrow into the fibers. If you are using moisture to clean upholstery, it is necessary to get rid of all dirt and pet hair as they could cause stains or a bad smell.

Respond quickly to a fresh spill – If something is spilled on your upholstered furniture, blot it right away! Make sure to blot and not wipe or rub the stain as that could cause it to spread. Also, take a whit rag or cloth and place it on top of the stain. Weight it down with a hot bowl of water and leave it for around ten minutes. This will allow the stain to wick up into the towel.

Make sure your cleaning products are for the appropriate material – Cleaning products are designed to work with specific materials and can cause damage if used incorrectly. It is always best practice to test any products in an inconspicuous area first.

Follow the care instructions on the tag – Instructions for cleaning can be found on the tag of most newer furniture. It will recommend a type of cleaning product, normally water based or non water based. It can also recommend the use of a professional cleaner.

Use a professional cleaner when necessary – Certain pieces of upholstered furniture require professional cleaning. At Newman Restoration & Cleaning, we use a low moisture cleaning system to ensure that upholstered furniture is not damaged.
